Film Description: “Don’t expose him to bright light. Don’t ever get him wet. And don’t ever, ever feed him after midnight.” This sage advice is ignored midway through Gremlins, with devastating results. Meanwhile, young bank clerk Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) must suffer such antagonists as rich-bitch Mrs. Deagle (Polly Holliday) and priggish Gerald (Judge Reinhold) while pursuing his romance with Kate (Phoebe Cates). These and a variety of other plot strands are tied together when the lovable mogwai (named Gizmo) is exposed to bright light and gotten wet. In short order, the town is invaded by nasty, predatory Gremlins, who lay waste to everything in sight as Billy and Kate try to contain the destruction. This is just a little gag I did yesterday. I though it would be fun to make the Brain Gremlin sing a different song than Sinatra’s ‘New York, New York’ as he did in the film. The footage is from ‘gremlins 2: The New Batch’ and also includes a bit of deleted shots. The music is ‘Blood’ a really off-beat song by My Chemical Romance.
This video is dedicated to director Joe Dante who directed both Gremlin movies and also some ’80s classics such as ‘The ‘Burbs’, ‘Innerspace’,
‘Explorers’, ‘The Howling’ and a segment of ‘The Twilight Zone Movie’. More recently he has directed wacky films such as ‘Small Soldiers’ and ‘Looney Tunes: Back in Action’. But I’ll always remember him as a great horror/comedy director.

Q: What movie would you like to see in theatres? Would you like more “low-key” vlogs like this?

Gremlins Attack Los Angeles?? : Black Nerd Vlogs – gremlins is one of my favorite movies of all time, yet I have never seen it in a movie theatre. In this vlog, I finally get to see Gremlins on the big screen thanks to the Vista Theatre in Los Angeles and the meetup group “Nerds Like Us.” They held a midnight screening just in time for Christmas, and I have such a “Gremlin-gasm” that I can’t even remember where I parked and get lost in L.A.

Some time ago now I made a music video for Christmas. It was made with footage of the film ‘Gremlins’ (1984). Which is one of my favourite films. So now I wanted to that same video again, except I wanted to make it better. And I really hope I did.

The movie is based on a script written by a young Chris Columbus who sold it to Steven Spielberg. The story was a lot darker back then, but when Spielberg asked Joe Dante to direct the project took a whole different turn. Dante discovered how funny the creatures could be and decided to make it a horror/comedy. ‘Gremlins’ is about an inventor named Randal Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) who buys his son Billy (Zach Galligan) a special gift for Christmas. A Mogwai called Gizmo. It comes with three simple rules; don’t expose it to sunlight or it will die, don’t get it wet and most importantly never feed it after midnight. Of course it is bound to go wrong and within days the town of Kingston Falls is overrun by little green monsters: Gremlins!

The song that I used is ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’ by Darlene Love. It is featured in one of the first scenes of the film. The original soundtrack was composed and conducted by the famed Jerry Goldmsith. This must be one of his most creative music ever, with the touching Gizmo theme, the quirky town theme and the memorable Gremlin Rag.

Plot: Randall “Randy” Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) is an inventor who is struggling to market his unusual and problem-plagued home appliances, including the handheld “Bathroom Buddy”. While searching for a Christmas present for his teenage son Billy (Zach Galligan) in an old antique store in Chinatown, Randy comes across a small furry creature called a Mogwai which he tries to buy for his son. The owner of the store, Mr. Wing (Keye Luke), refuses to sell the Mogwai to Randy on the grounds that owning the Mogwai is a great responsibility. As Randy is leaving the store, Mr. Wing’s grandson (John Louie) tells Randy to meet him outside, where he sells Randy the creature because Mr. Wing was in need of money. The grandson reminds Randy to follow three important instructions: never expose the Mogwai to bright lights, don’t get it wet, and never feed it after midnight.
Randy takes the Mogwai — giving it the name “Gizmo” — to his family home in the town of Kingston Falls. Billy and Gizmo quickly bond. After a glass of water is accidentally spilled on Gizmo, five more Mogwai spawn from Gizmo’s back. The five creatures seem much more mischievous than Gizmo. One of the creatures, who is named Stripe due to his white quiff of hair, seems quite menacing. Billy takes Gizmo to his science teacher, Mr. Anderson, and shows his teacher how a drop of water causes a new Mogwai to be spawned. After Billy takes Gizmo home, Mr. Anderson keeps the sixth Mogwai in the school science lab, where he conducts tests on the creature. Back at Billy’s house, the increasingly evil-seeming Mogwai sever the wires on the clock, thus tricking Billy into feeding them after midnight. After feeding, they become encased in cocoons. At the school, the sixth Mogwai eats some food left by Mr. Anderson early in the morning, and it too becomes encased in a cocoon.
Later, while Billy is out, the Mogwai hatch from their cocoons, and they are now reptilian-like Gremlins with sharp teeth and claws. The Gremlins are menacing and destructive. After the Gremlins attack Mrs. Peltzer, she kills three of them (blowing one up in a microwave) and the fourth is decapitated by Billy. The sixth Gremlin attacks Mr. Anderson and escapes. Stripe (or “Spike”) escapes to a nearby swimming pool in an YMCA centre and jumps into the water spawning a huge number of Gremlins who go on a rampage across the town with numerous casualties. Among them are Mr. and Mrs. Futterman, the local policemen, and the town’s taxing menace Mrs. Deagle who is launched out of a window on a malfunctioning stair lift. Billy and Gizmo rescue Kate Beringer when the Gremlins overrun the town’s bar.
Inside the post office, Kate laments on how Christmas has been ruined again (her father previously dying while attempting to come down a chimney dressed as Santa Claus). The Gremlins’ rampage falls silent when they head to the cinema to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Billy, Kate and Gizmo sneak backstage and ignite the gasworks to destroy the cinema, killing all of the Gremlins.
Stripe, having left the cinema to look for food, survives and is chased by Billy into a department store until he confronts him in a conservatory. Stripe leaps into a water fountain and begins spawning, until Gizmo opens a blind, dazzling Stripe with…
